During a follow up coaching session with my client, we looked at healthier alternatives to swap her supermarket jam for something healthier. While discussing her taste I suggested her to try making a home made raspberry or strawberry chia seed jam. I have shared the recipe with her and thought you might like it as well. This recipe is free from refined sugar.
Do you know the amount of sugar in a traditional jam?
As it is mainly fruits and sugar, the percentage of sugar in a traditional jam is approximately 55-65%!!
This means that if you use one tablespoon of jam for your breakfast, you are already consuming around 10-12g of sugar! In my recipe I simply didn't add any sugar at all, but you can add 2 tbps. of honey or agave syrup to taste if you want and this would still be a lot less than the supermarket or traditional ones!
Why did I use chia seeds?
Well to have a jam texture and not just a fruit compote, you need to add an ingredient that can set the liquid raspberries or strawberries mixture into a jam texture. And as chia seeds can hold up to 12 times its weight in liquid, this is the perfect ingredient!
