Hot cross Buns
April 15, 2017
I have made this recipe for Easter.
I have used a combination of flours, use honey instead of refined white sugar, reduce the oil to add more milk...and they turned out really well.
This recipe contains organic 85% dark chocolate as a treat for the kids :)
There are other recipes on Internet healthier than mine but I follow a 80/20 rule... and my view is making your own cross buns is already a great step for a healthier lifestyle :)

Ingredients
(for 10-12 hot cross buns)
550g plain white flour
50g wholemeal or multigrain or rye flour
20g of yeast
1 tbs of ginger
2 tsp of cinnamon
2 tbs of raw honey
100g of sultanas
40g butter or olive oil or coconut oil
300ml of Full Cream milk (your choice)
2 large eggs
60g of dark chocolate – I used 85% cacao
Method
Place the flours, salt and spices in a large bowl. Whisk to combine. Add the yeast and milk, eggs, butter. Then add the sultanas. Combine well.
Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead to form a ball.
Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Divide the dough into 10-12 buns, and place them on the baking tray a few centimeters apart.
Let them rise for 1 hour or until they roughly doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C fan forced.
Bake buns in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden
Set buns aside to cool on a large plate.
Decorate with hot chocolate.
