My childhood in Corsica….
I spent my childhood in a lovely village in Corsica called Alata near Ajaccio (city of Napoleon), South of France. I was surrounded by nature and my favourite pastime was to look at my dad preparing such lovely recipes, especially bread in our own stone oven in the garden. That time was magical. We were so close to nature: We had chicken and ducks, we bought fresh vegetables, fish and meat at the market…
During holidays and weekends, we had long bush walks, and went to the beach all year around. I really can say that I was interested in food from an early age. I was not particularly thin or overweight but I was feeling good.
My university years
When I was 20 years old, I left my parents’ home to start studying at university. I found it really difficult and food was was my way to express and reward myself. I start putting on weight more and more and was feeling stress, anxiety and did not have a good body image. One day, I was invited to see friends but I stayed in my bedroom, staring at the mirror and feeling bad about myself. I was in tears…I was 24 years old and was feeling extremely bad...but I was not able to change until after my studies. I started working with a new company in Paris. They asked me to do a health visit and the doctor advised me to lose 6 kilos. I didn’t want to go on a strict diet, I only wanted to change my bad habits and become healthier. So I decide to revisit my food intake and start doing more sport. I managed to lose 10 kilos in 8 months, my main goal was to be a size 6-8 to have a nice dress for my friend wedding. I guess this vision helped me achieving my objectives!! I felt accomplished and received so many compliments…
My arrival in Australia
When I was 25 years old, I arrived in Sydney, Australia and I was still not feeling very healthy…and decided to work on my health and fitness again. This was very challenging as I was already at a good weight considering my body structure. I become completely mad about food, I was mainly eating vegetables, fruits and a bit of bread…I started becoming anti-social, I didn’t want to go out as I was too afraid to gain more weight!
But after talking with nutritionists, naturopaths and doctors I finally learnt to make peace with my body and accept my body the way it should be. I focused more on healthy food that diets and I started feeling better day by day. Since that I gave up dieting, I found that my mind and body healed!
The joy of being a mum
I am now a mum of two adorable little boys. Maintaining good nutrition and health has become a bit more challenging…with kids my children being my priority it is easy to put yourself second. I started baking more sweets and being less active as well…and then obviously I gain some weight AGAIN!! Not only I had my “baby” weight from my pregnancy but a bit more as well. I wasn't technically overweight, but I start feeling unhappy in my clothes, a bit down and depressed, and eating more chocolate than apples… I know that this was not the ideal way to react but it is not easy to follow your own proper guidance, especially when we are tired and stay home with plenty of sweets around you…
Fortunately I realised that this was not who I wanted to be, not for me, not for my kids. I started becoming more proactive with my health. I looked for healthy recipes for kids, walked more with them rather than taking my car, went swimming etc…and I started cooking French alternatives recipes, which means looking at a recipe and swapping ingredients for others etc…
Once I managed to be back on track, this was not enough, something was still missing in the equation. I wanted to share my story and be of service of people like me that wanted to lose a bit of weight, feel more active and healthy…this is how I started reading more information about becoming a food and health coach. And here I am now a qualify Health coach!! Full of energy to help you achieving your goals, your own ambitions, and be healthier. As a health and nutrition coach I will be that patient and supportive person and will be with you each step of the way. We will build a plan together and work as a team.
